Here we are, a number of years after ethanol was first introduced into our gas and diesel fuels and it began to cause one problem after another, not just in the automotive industry, but also in every engine that uses fuel including boat motors.

Over this time there have been countless articles, notifications, manufacturer bulletins, news reports and scientific studies disputing the so-called environmental and financial benefits of ethanol-laced fuels and how ethanol can destroy your motor and fuel system if you don’t take certain precautions. You’d think by now that everyone would have heard this and heeded the advice, but unfortunately fuel related problems continue to plague boaters.

Whether you are a boater that has been on vacation on some far distant planet for the last eight to 10 years, or you’re just now hearing about it and maybe having motor problems, here’s a quick review of the ethanol saga and what you need to do to prevent most fuel related problems.
